Working with the hope agency in Cambodia has been great. Some background information; Rural Cambodians have endured some terrible hardships. The Pol Pot genocide eliminated almost all of the professionals and educators in the nation, and Cambodians suffered during the subsequent two-decade long war and persistent political unrest. The most significant contributor to poverty in Cambodia is the lack of functioning educational facilities and economic opportunities caused by the obliteration of the most basic institutions and facilities necessary to sustain a community. agencystrives to break the cycle of poverty by empowering women, children and the community through access to education and subsequent sustainable employment opportunities. Hope Agency strives to create a bright and better future for these disadvantaged people. are trying to raise money for "the cow project" the goal for this project is to raise 30 to 50 cows. These cows will generate income for the school and help create more income so hope agency will be able to create an orphanage and another school in another small Cambodian village that is to far away for children to go to school. The cow project also serves as life skills and will give money to the school for educational supplies and hygiene supplies and to create a proper toilet for the facility. As of now the children go into the tree to go to the bathroom and this is very dangerous. Raising cows is an easy way to create an income and is the best way to have money in cambodia make money for the hope agency. The cow project also creates a way to teach the children about the circle of life, responsibility of taking care of an animals and land. The Hope Agency aims to intercept the vicious cycle of poverty and exploitation at the crucial root of the problem: lack of education and resources for the most vulnerable people. To accomplish this, the Orphanage Center for the Elimination of Child Labor and Exploitation (OCECLE) is a pilot project that builds and runs a center for orphaned children to live in and learn at until they complete school. This center will free children from having to work dangerous, arduous jobs and will provide them with a safe and comfortable home environment where they will be fed, clothed, given access to healthcare, and provided with kindergarten, primary, and high school education, as well as non-formal education (i.e., training in building & construction, sewing, agriculture, mechanics, etc). The children will also receive training in health, nutrition and basic morals and values (such as respect for oneself and others, cooperation, discipline, etc.). Once they complete school, the children will be assisted (technically and financially) in securing sustainable jobs or furthering their education. The highest education in the village is a man who has not even graduated from high school, he works harder than anyone i have ever seen in his life, so his son's can go to school and NOT help him with his work but to better their future.
Hope Agency has formed a strong and respectful relationship with all the villagers and authorities it has been assisting for the past year, providing an open forum for raising awareness on delicate matters such as HIV/AIDS. Hope Agency will additionally conduct regular Human Rights workshops in which it will encourage the families of the children, and community members, to join in learning about the value of education, alternatives to child labor, the importance of non-violence, and community solidarity and development. Education campaigns will be integrated with the workshops that will target both men and women in the communities. Lastly when the wet season hits Cambodia the villages have created ways to keep the water in order to use it for many sources, this is great to see people using all natural resources to support their simple life style.
Working with the Hope agency has given me a new found respect for it's cause and it's director. And in reflecting in my experience i have seen how grateful i am to have such a loving and supportive family. I have seen how a simple life style can be a great way of life but giving these people more as in electricity, gas, bicycles, motor bikes, and more ways for the people to work smarter NOT harder.
good heart! hope targets will be achieved
